Brewster Day Camp Philosophy

Brewster Day Camp Philosophy

Camp Philosophy Brewster Day Camp invites all campers to pursue and achieve personal growth through group challenges and individual success. Our campers participate in a variety of activities designed by professional, dedicated coaches, teachers, and university students. Trained BDC staff members foster age-appropriate social skills while encouraging physical growth, tenacious curiosity, heightened self-esteem, and strong leadership skills in all campers. Together with their friends and counselors who come to Cape Cod from all over the world, BDC campers learn to embody the camp motto through sharing: Courage, Hope, Good Spirit, & Peace.

Each season, BDC is licensed by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts through our local Town of Brewster Board of Health. BDC is also fully accredited by the American Camp Association (ACA).

People often ask, “why be accredited?” Every season BDC meets and exceeds the ACA Standards, which are the “gold standard” for camp industry excellence, and every five years we stand for our accreditation visit by specially trained camp professionals who join us on campus.  We are proud to be an outstanding ACA accredited camp, and as such our directors engage in ongoing professional development throughout the year. Learn more about this rigorous process here.

BDC welcomes campers and staff to our 4.5 acre campus filled with tents, assembly areas, fields, playgrounds, pavilions, a low ropes course, and an Olympic-sized swimming pool all nestled in the woods and surrounded by Nickerson State Park. BDC is the summer component of our year-round early childhood program, The Family Schools, an independent year-round school for young children, which shares the campus.

Brewster PhilosophyIn all of these programs, our most valuable asset is our highly educated and dedicated faculty comprised of certified teachers, accomplished administrators, and gifted coaches & counselors.

Our teaching faculty remains dedicated to teaching children through their individual learning styles and provides each child with the skills to recognize and capitalize on his or her own gifts. Our staff works closely to provide an excellent educational experience for each child.

Documented in the book Common Sense Discipline by Grace Mitchell and Lois Dewsnap (Gryphon House 1995), as well as being named to the Top Ten Schools in the Country for Supporting Diverse Families, the work of our faculty has achieved national status.
